BCom with ACCA: Exemptions, Papers, Duration and Eligibility

Published on: October 9, 2026

What Is BCom with ACCA

BCom with ACCA is a 3-year integrated, dual-qualification undergraduate degree programme. It combines a Bachelor of Commerce degree with the ACCA qualification, which has 13 papers. Accredited degree syllabi earn paper exemptions, so students attempt fewer ACCA exams.

ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is a global professional body. Its qualification has 3 levels:

  • Applied Knowledge: 3 papers
  • Applied Skills: 6 papers
  • Strategic Professional: 4 papers (2 compulsory, 2 optional)

Total: 13 papers across 3 levels. The BCom syllabus covers accounting, business law, taxation and economics. That overlap with ACCA content is why exemptions apply.

How Many ACCA Papers Does BCom with ACCA Exempt?

An accredited BCom with ACCA programme exempts up to 9 of the 13 ACCA papers. These are the 3 Applied Knowledge papers and the 6 Applied Skills papers. A standard BCom without an accredited ACCA-mapped syllabus gets fewer. A BCom (Hons) from a strongly accredited university may qualify for up to 4 exemptions. B.Com holders typically receive up to 4 exemptions from Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills.

Exemption count depends on 2 factors:

  1. University accreditation status with ACCA
  2. Syllabus match between BCom subjects and ACCA papers

ACCA assesses the syllabus, not the degree title.

Which ACCA Papers Are Exempted, and Which Must Be Attempted?

The exempted papers are BT, MA, FA, LW, PM, TX, FR, AA, and FM. The 4 Strategic Professional papers must be attempted.

Exemptions are not automatic. The student applies through the myACCA portal and uploads degree certificates and semester transcripts. B.Com graduates also submit a detailed syllabus copy for exemption assessment.

What Is the Semester-Wise Structure of BCom with ACCA?

BCom with ACCA has 6 semesters across 3 years.  Each year pairs degree subjects with one ACCA level. The split below is indicative, and the final schedule depends on the university.

Who Is Eligible for BCom with ACCA?

Students who completed Class 12 with 5 subjects, including English and Maths or Accounts, are eligible. ACCA's direct entry rule requires 65% in at least 2 subjects and over 50% in the remaining subjects. Commerce students typically meet this.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Education: Class 12 pass from a recognised board
  • Subjects: 5 subjects, including English and Maths/Accounts
  • Marks: 65% in 2 subjects, above 50% in the others

Students below these marks have an alternative. ACCA offers the Foundations in Accountancy (FIA) route for candidates who miss direct entry. Students from the Science and Humanities streams also qualify, provided the marks above are met. See ACCA after 12th and ACCA after BCom for the other entry routes.
